Marshall's Riverwalk

Marshall's Riverwalk

In 1986, the citizens of Marshall identified waterfront development as a desired quality of life enhancement. Over the next several years, plans were developed for a "Riverwalk" along the Kalamazoo River. Running from Kalamazoo Avenue to Stuarts Landing, the 1.6 mile Riverwalk consists of both elevated boardwalk and paved pathways. There are five pedestrian bridges, boar and canoe launches, and scenic overlook areas. Wooded pathways follow both Rice Creek and the Kalamazoo River and provide a wonderful opportunity to view wildlife in its natural habitat.

May 2024 Update

The City has been working with the MCSA Group to design upgrades to the Riverwalk's oldest section: Stuart's Landing to Marshall Avenue.  Due to the fact that this section is in a floodplain, the city has to apply for a permit from EGLE to replace the dilapidated section.  They are extremely backlogged with permits and have not responded to our submission as of May 22.  As soon as we receive the permit, the project will be bid so that work can commence.

The night of May 20th, a storm hit Marshall damaging sections of the Riverwalk.  City staff have patched holes and cleared the fallen trees.  Sections of the fencing are still in disrepair as city staff work with contractors to get quotes to replace the damaged fencing.  Please be extremely careful of the sections with warning tape up and if possible, avoid until repaired.
